NMFA is... These are difficult times for service members and their families. The War on Terror has seen an expansion in our nation's military operations, which has increased the need for the National Military Family Association's services. While many organizations are concerned with the welfare of the troops, NMFA is the only organization dedicated solely to issues concerning military families. The adverse conditions of many deployment zones, special events and holidays spent without a parent or spouse, and the pressure of rearing children as a single-parent are among the challenges that have exacted a heavy financial and emotional toll on the spouses and children left behind. NMFA has been there for these families for 36 years, and will continue to be there with your support.

In December 1995, the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama in Birmingham introduced two people with a common cause: Dolly Ashton O'Neal, an 18 month breast cancer survivor and Bruce Sokol, whose wife D.D. was receiving treatment for breast cancer. They shared the goal of wanting a cure for this disease and set out to raise money for research. Norman Berk, whose wife is also a breast cancer survivor, soon joined them, as did Charlie Baker. They formed and inspired others to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. Since 1996, the Foundation has raised nearly $1.9 million for breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. We hope you too will be inspired to join us in our fight to DRIVE OUT BREAST CANCER! |
